UPC

upc-barcodeThe Universal Product Code is an all numeric symbol adopted by the food industry in 1973. The system was developed by the food industry to give every product a unique code number. It is utilized as a “License Plate” number for individual items. It is most commonly used in a retail environment.

CODE 128

code128-barcodeCode 128 was selected by the retail industry as a standard code for marking shipping cartons. It has double density numerics, each bar character represents two characters. It is self-checking with bi-directional start and stop patterns making it resistant to scanning errors.

CODE 39 (3 of 9)

code39-barcodeCode 39 is the most widely used alphanumeric symbology. It is not of a fixed length so considerable information can be stored. It is self checking, provides a high level of data security and is bi-directional, which means it can be read from left to right or from right to left.

INTERLEAVED 2 of 5

interleaved-barcodeInterleaved 2 of 5 uses only digits. It is a variable length continuous code which is highly compressed. It is used primarily for the automotive industry, warehouse inventory handling, photofinishing envelopes, airline ticketing and baggage & cargo handling. It is the standard symbology for outer shipping containers.

CODABAR

PARS

pars-barcodePre Arrival Review System (PARS) are affixed to the A8A document used for importing goods into Canada. They contain a 4 digit carrier code (assigned by the CCRA), the word PARS (optional) and a 6 or 8 digit consecutive number assigned by the manufacturer of the goods for shipment tracking.
